Under £200 used, the X8 promises 80% of the flagship experience. We measured exactly how much it delivers.

Honest value: strong suction, decent mapping, basic mopping. Skip it if you have thick carpet — see the airflow numbers in section 3.

The maths is the whole story here. A used X8 costs £140–£190 against a £449 launch price — roughly 40% of what a flagship costs second-hand — and on our bench it delivered a genuine 80% of the flagship experience: 93% weighed pickup on hard floor, LiDAR mapping accurate enough to trust with no-go zones, and a bin big enough to skip a day. For a flat or a hard-floored house, that is not a compromise. It is simply the correct amount of robot.
The missing 20% is not evenly distributed, though — it is piled up in two places. The first is thick carpet, where Eufy's twin-turbine arithmetic falls apart (section 3 has the numbers). The second is everything around the cleaning: no self-empty dock, a mop that is closer to a damp gesture than a wash, and an app that occasionally forgets which decade it is. If your floors suit it, the X8 is the best sub-£200 buy on this site. If they don't, no discount fixes physics.
Same protocol as every Bench Test: our 94 m² two-floor test home, daily scheduled runs for eight weeks, debris scores by weighed pickup — a measured 20 g mix of rice, oats and dog hair per zone, bin contents weighed after each pass. Flagship reference figures are from our Roborock S8 Pro Ultra bench run, because that is the machine the X8's marketing keeps glancing at.
| Hard-floor pickup (weighed) | 93% | 97% (S8 Pro Ultra) |
|---|---|---|
| Carpet pickup, medium pile (weighed) | 71% | 88% |
| Pet-hair pickup on carpet | 68% | 92% |
| Measured airflow at the floor head | 16.4 CFM | 22.1 CFM |
| Battery runtime (measured, standard mode) | 146 min | 168 min |
| Mapping accuracy (laser-measured floor plan) | 96% | 98% |
Eufy's headline claim is 2,000 Pa from each of two turbines, and the internet has done the optimistic addition ever since. Pascals measure sealed suction, not moving air, and our anemometer tells the real story: 16.4 CFM at the floor head, against 22.1 from the S8 Pro Ultra's single large turbine. Two small fans do not equal one big one — they equal two small ones sharing a duct.
On hard floor this barely matters. Debris sits on the surface, the twin layout keeps airflow usefully even across the full width of the intake, and the X8's 93% weighed pickup actually beat our j7+ figure on smooth oak. Edge pickup along skirting boards was the best we've measured under £300.
Carpet is where the physics sends its invoice. Lifting grit out of medium pile needs raw airflow the X8 simply hasn't got: 71% weighed pickup on our test carpet, falling to 63% on a deep-pile offcut we keep for exactly this purpose. Pet hair wraps into the pile and stays there — 68%, and three passes only nudged it to 74%. If your home is mostly carpet, the extra £150 for a used flagship is not a luxury; it is the part of the machine you'd actually be using.
No self-empty dock, and no way to add one — the X8 predates Eufy's dock ecosystem. Its 400 ml bin managed two days in our test home before pickup measurably dropped, so budget thirty seconds of your life daily. Whether that is a chore or a rounding error is a personality question we can't answer for you.
The mopping is the honest kind of basic: a gravity-fed 250 ml tank dragging a damp pad in straight lines. It removed our dried-coffee test spot in four passes and left dried mud politely undisturbed. Treat it as dust suppression for hard floor, not cleaning, and you won't be disappointed — mostly because you'll have stopped expecting anything.
The Eufy Clean app does the essentials — scheduling, no-go zones, room selection — but dropped our saved map twice in eight weeks, both times after firmware updates. Remapping takes one 40-minute run, which is more annoying than ruinous. Multi-floor mapping is technically supported and practically temperamental; single-floor homes will never notice.
How we fund this: Bench Test units are bought at retail. If you buy a new robot through outbound retailer links we may earn an affiliate commission; it never affects scores, and used listings on Robot AutoTrader carry no commission in this phase.
